Do you have your Word of the Year? If not, here is a post that may help you with picking one. If you have yours already, have you written any goals or affirmations based on your word? My 2019 Word of the Year: Part 2
My word is Transform: to undergo a total change for the better. I didn’t start out knowing I wanted “transform”. Actually, I started with the word change, but it didn’t “feel” exactly right and so I used a thesaurus for other options and then came up with transform.
Part 2: I will transform our house into a home.
My second focus (missed Part 1, you can read it here) will be on our home. Although my home is not even two years old yet, it still needs to transform from a house to a home. We have moved every three to four years over the last 18 years we have been together (thank you Air Force!!). We truly have been blessed with each move and by no means do I regret any of it. I mean, we got to live in freaking Italy for four years! My 2019 Word of the Year: Part 2
But on a more serious note, I always knew each location or house was tempory. We never really made them homes with finishing touches. We came close with our last house, but still didn’t really grasp the need or have the drive to do what needed to be done. Well, that ends this year. I have already painted several rooms, but there are still more. I mean, aren’t there always projects to do?
Some of the ways I intend to transform our house into a home is to finish painting EVERY room! I still have two rooms on the main floor and four on the second floor. I also am slowly getting a feel for what we need and want as a vibe for our home. I personally believe this takes some time, but that could just be me. Do you enjoy painting? Are you more of a neutral pallet or full on color pallet person? Me, full-on color – on steroids, LOL. My 2019 Word of the Year: Part 2
Others items I am focusing on is to use the space we have as effectively as I can. We definitely have enough space, but due to lack of organization, we aren’t using it in the way that we should. What are your favorite organizing hacks? I love a good hack that is versatile!
I have used Pinterest quite a bit for inspiration. Even though you can totally get lost down the rabbit hole that is Pinterest, there is just so much freaking awesome inspiration! If you want to see some of my Pinterest ideas, you can follow me here.
You may be wondering how this fits into a Mindset genre. For me, I have fought tooth and nail against archaic gender roles. I am a Veteran who once was a Federal Agent so as you can imagine giving up my career in the Air Force to stay home with our kids (best decision ever!) kind of threw off my “purpose”. I dislike cleaning, like a lot, lol. I have realized that I do appreciate a clean and organized house (so does the Hubs). My 2019 Word of the Year: Part 2
I have learned that this job of “Domestic Engineer” is what I need at this phase of my life. I “need” to make our house a home. Not because society expects me to because I’m the girl, but because I need to do this for ME (and vicariously my family). I love how I feel when I finish a room that totally fits our style, I can relax and just enjoy it – that’s why this fits.
Simply put, it is therapeutic for me. It allows me to use my creative juices that I have been neglecting but also have something functional in the end that brings me joy!
Are any of your goals for 2019 therapeutic for you? If so, I would love to hear about them.
Stay tuned for Part 3!
